Local animal lovers take on Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month challenge

Two dedicated animal lovers have vowed to abstain from meat during Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month to raise funds for feral cat sterilisation.

DOING her part for Anti Animal Cruelty Month, Michelle Hannan of the Amanzimtoti SPCA is taking on a personal challenge with her friend, Roland Borea, to raise money to sterilise feral cats.

The pair started this project on April 1 and will continue through the rest of the month, vowing to abstain from meat throughout the month.

“We’d like to appeal for volunteers to join us during the month. You can take pictures of your meals and use the #animalawarenesscatsteriapril2025. We are aiming to raise R20 000. The person who donates the most stands to win a mystery prize,” said Michelle.

She challenged herself in the same way years ago and raised R2500, and this time around, her heart lies with sterilising cats around Amanzimtoti.
