Local Government Elections date announced

The Electoral Commission of South Africa has encouraged eligible voters to check where they are currently registered to vote.

PRESIDENT Cyril Ramaphosa has announced November 4 as the official voting date for the 2026 Local Government Elections.

With the voter registration weekend scheduled for June 20 to 21, the Electoral Commission of SA has encouraged eligible voters to check where they are currently registered to vote.

How to check your voter registration status
Voters can use several official platforms provided by the IEC to check their registration details:

• Visit the IEC website: www.elections.org.za
• Send an SMS with your ID number to 32810
• Call the toll-free call centre from a landline on 0800 11 8000 (available only during specific periods announced by the Commission)
• Use the online registration portal on a smartphone, laptop or tablet at https://registertovote.elections.org.za/
• Use the IEC WhatsApp Chatbot on 060 088 0000, which redirects users to the website
• Download the IEC mobile application and enter your identity number.
