On January 5, at about 08:45, a CCPO guard who was patrolling along Old Main Road in Amanzimtoti saw a woman lying on the side of the road. In a statement, the CCPO said when the guard checked on her, she told him that she had been raped and stabbed.

“The guard called for assistance, and CCPO and ET Rapid responded to the scene. The lady described the suspects and pointed out a house where they were last seen. Amanzimtoti SAPS crime prevention, Umlazi K9 and Umzinto K9 also responded. The house was checked, but the suspects had already departed,” read the statement.

A search was conducted in the surrounding area, and the two men were located and arrested by the police. The victim was transported to the hospital, and the two men were taken to the KwaMakhutha police station, where they were charged. They are expected to appear in court soon.

On January 4, which proved to be the busiest day yet, the CCPO responded to three incidents. At about 11:30, a CCPO guard spotted a man carrying a large blue box on School Road in Amanzimtoti. The guard called for assistance, and when the box was checked, various household items were found inside. When questioned, the man said he got the items from a friend, but the friend denied this. He then pointed out a house on School Road from which he had stolen the items. Amanzimtoti police were contacted, and a case of house break-in was opened.

Later that day, a CCPO guard noticed a man pushing a wheelbarrow in the Amanzimtoti CBD.

“The wheelbarrow looked new, so the guard queried where the man had got it from. He said he found it on the N2 but later said he stole it from the welfare office on Adams Road. CCPO and ET Rapid assisted, and the man was taken to Amanzimtoti police station, where he was arrested,” said the CCPO.

In the afternoon, a report was received from a member of the public who noticed someone jumping over a neighbour’s wall in Louis Botha Drive. CCPO and ET Rapid responded, and three suspects were detained in Dan Pienaar Drive. They were handed to the police.
