Surf’s up for Amanzimtoti’s surfing competition

One of the South Coast's main attractions, its surfing, is getting a long overdue spotlight, with an upcoming event centred around surfing.

THE spirit of the Sapphire Coast is intrinsically linked to the surf and this year, a first of its kind is hitting the shores. The Amanzimtoti Surf Fest, hosted by Shorebreak Surf Club and Shorebreak Surfing Ministry, is set to bring a renewed energy to the beachfront from April 25-26.

The event at Amanzimtoti Main Beach is expected to attract surfers, families and spectators from across the South Coast and beyond.

Rudolph Fourie, director of Shorebreak Surf Club, said that his hope is to host an exciting competition, build a stronger local surf community and create opportunities for local surfers and businesses.

“Shorebreak Surf Club has been actively working to make surfing more accessible, particularly for young people in the area. As part of its vision, the club is looking to partner with local schools to establish school surf teams, helping to develop young talent and introduce structured participation in the sport. We want to see surfing grow at a grassroots level in Amanzimtoti,” said Fourie.

Beyond the Surf Fest, Shorebreak Surfing Ministry plans to expand along the KZN coastline by hosting multiple events aimed at combining surfing with mentorship and positive community engagement.
