A CAMERA system has been installed in the parking lot by Amanzimtoti Main Beach to address rising vehicle thefts and enhance tourists’ safety.
Sponsored by ET Rapid Response, these cameras will provide live surveillance, monitored by the company’s control room.

Tony Lokker, managing director of ET Rapid Response, said three cars were stolen in just one week, with cameras assisting in identifications and directions.
Jace Govender, superintendent of eThekwini beaches, reached out to Sapphire Coast Tourism about installing cameras for the safety and security of tourists.
“People immediately feel safer when there are cameras, and it also deters criminals. I want people to be able to enjoy the beach and not have to worry about their cars or their safety. We also urged the public not to support car guards and washers, as some are linked to a crime syndicate in the area,” he said.
Romy Wenzel, chairperson of Sapphire Coast Tourism, added that this initiative aligns with the eThekwini Municipality’s Safer Cities campaign, enhancing security at key tourism spots.
“The goal is for this initiative to be between our tourism organisation, security companies and the community. We also have cameras installed at Inyoni Crescent and solar lights at Rogies Park,” she said.
