Isipingo Police Station’s spokesperson, Constable Donald Naidoo, said they have cracked what is believed to be the biggest motor vehicle parts theft syndicate in Isipingo.
“The accused had been remanded into custody because he had been linked to several cases in Isipingo and an ongoing investigation into the theft of vehicle parts, including parts in the police pound,” said Naidoo.
A multi-disciplinary operation was conducted at the suspect’s residence on January 16. During the operation, vehicle identification experts were called to the scene.

Naidoo said evidence identified and seized included two car doors and an engine block of unknown origin with a tampered engine number. A car fender was identified using micro-dot technology and bore a chassis number linked to a Midrand case. On the police system, this car part reflected as being at the Isipingo police pound.
“Expert statements are being prepared and will be handed over to the investigating official,” said Naidoo.
The accused remains in custody until his next court appearance.
