Planned outage to interrupt electricity supply tomorrow

The Kingsburgh substation electricity supply will be interrupted to perform a repair and various areas will be affected tomorrow.

A PLANNED outage will interrupt the electricity supply tomorrow (February 25) from 08:00 until 17:00. The eThekwini Municipality has advised that the supply interruption is required to enable eThekwini Electricity to perform an urgent medium voltage switchgear repair at the Kingsburgh Substation, and is expected to improve the reliability of the substation.

Parts of the following areas may be affected: Amanzimtoti, Emsahweni, Adams Mission, Enkanyisweni, Illovo Township, Zwelisha, Diptank, Kwafazi, Sawpit, Sunnyside Park and Winklespruit.

The Municipality said in a statement, “To execute this work safely, it is necessary to interrupt electricity supply at the Kingsburgh Substation. It requires half of the switchboard to be interrupted. About 50% of customers supplied from this substation will be affected. We urge customers in these areas to plan for this electricity outage. Customers that are not switched off by 08:30 can assume they will be unaffected. During this outage, the public is advised to treat all electrical installations as live.”
