Last call to join the Caxton Cares Square by Square workshop

The workshop will be held at the South Coast SUN office, 33 Main Road, Kingsburgh, Amanzimtoti where attendees can enjoy some quality time with like-minded people.

WITH a few knitters and crocheters already lined up for the Caxton Cares Square by Square workshop on Saturday, March 1, a last call is made to those who would still like to sign up for this worthy cause.

The workshop will be held at the South Coast SUN office, 33 Main Road, Kingsburgh, Amanzimtoti from 13:00 to 15:00, to not only enjoy some quality time with like-minded people but also to teach those who are eager to learn a new craft the ins and outs of crocheting and knitting. Each participant should bring their own wool, knitting needles or a 4.5cm crochet hook. A call is also made to the attendees to bring extra wool.

“I have almost completed my first crocheted blanket,” said the editor of the Southlands/ South Coast SUN. “It has not only been therapeutic, but exciting to see my almost completed handy work,” said the editor Roelien D’Amico.

She added that they are in desperate need of any colour or type of wool which will be much appreciated. This project aims to donate 500 knee blankets to the elderly. To complete 500 blankets, 21 000 knitted or crochet blocks, 15cm x 15cm, are needed. The blocks will be sewn together to make a 90cm knee blanket. Anybody who wishes to join the workshop, or participate in the project, can send a WhatsApp message to 079 728 6787, call the office on 031 903 2341 or send an email to sunads@dbn.caxton.co.za.

The closing date for this project is June 2, with distribution to take place in July.

There are a few spot prizes up for grabs. The person who donated the most wool, or crocheted or knitted the most blocks, will win a special treat sponsored by Pia Health and Beauty Spa, Amanzimtoi. There are also breakfast vouchers from Clearwater Spur in Beach Road up for grabs. Tea, coffee and eats will be served.
