Umgababa girls honoured for virtue and values

Young girls from Umgababa were recognised and awarded for maintaining good values in their communities.

THE Umnini Community Trust in partnership with the KZN Department of Sport, Arts and Culture hosted a ceremony in Umgababa to award and encourage young girls to continue living a virtuous life and hold on to good values.

The event was held at Umnini Sports Centre on March 29 and included young girls aged 21 and younger from all regions of Umgababa. Umnini Community Trust’s chairperson, Busani Luthuli, said each region has an appointed woman who acts as a mother to that particular area’s girls. The girls meet regularly with their peers and the mother teaches them about respect and how to resist the temptation of falling into social ills.

The event was attended by community members, non-profit organisations, and parents of the girls.

“These are the flowers of our nation and if they remain pure and don’t rush into things, good things will happen to our communities because they will stick to education and achieve great things,” said Luthuli.
