Amanzimtoti High School’s star-studded hockey side look to defend their title

The formidable Amanzimtoti High School hockey team sets its sights on a successful regional tournament to make another final.

DEFENDING champions of the SPAR KZN Schoolgirls’ Hockey Challenge, Amanzimtoti High School, are on the hunt for another title as they gear up to head to 3 Schools Trust Astroturf in Berea on April 12 to face off against rival teams to earn their place in the regional final.

The Durban South Regional marks the fifth of 10 regionals that take place in the province and promises a hockey-filled weekend. Ten teams will take to the turf and this will be the first regional of the year where schools will be divided into two pools. Werda Skool will take on Kingsway High School, New Forest High School, Port Natal Skool and Rossburgh High School in Pool B.

In defence of its title, Amanzimtoti High School will have to conquer Durban Academy, Gelofte Skool, Queensburgh Girls’ High School and rivals, Kuswag Skool.

Tournament director, Les Galloway, said, “Games will be a quick-fire 15 minutes long. The top two teams from each pool will head to a cross pool playoff, with the winners of both of the games heading to the regional final which takes place at 2.15. The team crowned in the Durban South Regional will head to the Grand Finals taking place later this year at St Mary’s Diocesan School for Girls, where they will meet nine other teams representing the various KZN regions.”
