Caxton Cares: B3, join the drive to warm hearts this winter
The Caxton Cares B3 project has officially kicked off and aims to spread warmth to everyone in the community.
KINDNESS is already stitching the community together as the Caxton Cares B3 project gets underway.
The initiative, focusing on blankets, beanies and booties, aims to ensure that everyone, from babies to the elderly, stays warm during the winter months.
Through this project, the South Coast SUN hopes to once again unite the community in a spirit of kindness and compassion, sharing the warmth of handmade items with those who need them most.

As with last year, crocheted or knitted knee blankets should measure approximately 1m by 1m, or alternatively be made up of 15cm by 15cm squares. The type or colour of wool is not important, what matters most is that each blanket is made with care, pride and generosity.
Adult booties are especially needed in sizes five to 12, as many elderly residents feel the winter chill more intensely and often struggle with cold feet. Beanies have been added to this year’s campaign following numerous requests during last year’s drive. Donations of beanies in all sizes and colours are welcome.
The closing date for the project is May 15, with distribution across the South Coast SUN footprint scheduled for the week of June 8.
The Mudpie Co is once again supporting the initiative. Donations of wool, booties, beanies or blankets can be dropped off at the store. Crochet expert and SUN staff member Gerda Macgregor is available to assist with any queries.
She can be contacted on 031 903 2341 or via the Caxton Cares WhatsApp group on 079 728 6787. She will also share her easy-to-make beanie pattern on request.
This is a community-driven project and, despite appeals for wool donations, contributions have been limited. Please note that wool is not supplied by the newspaper.
