Edu-Paw’s heartfelt plea for community assistance
SPCA Edu-Paw recently dewormed 20 of its learners' dogs. It hopes for community assistance to vaccinate them.
WITH 20 dogs de-wormed, Edu Paw, an animal-centric non-profit organisation, has a daunting next step ahead in vaccinating each and every canine.

The Amanzimtoti-based NPO focuses on educating rural pet owners on proper pet ownership, care and training, and often goes above and beyond in caring for its learners’ furry companions.
Co-ordinator Nomfundo Luthuli explained that deworming, a vital first step in improving the dogs’ health, is done but vaccination is the next step.
“It is unfortunately one of our biggest expenses, as vaccinating all these dogs will cost more than R20 000. We are appealing to our wonderful supporters to help us make this possible. Any donation, no matter the size, will help move these dogs one step closer to a healthier future,” said Luthuli.
After vaccination, sterilisation will be the next step, as it is one of the most important ways the NPO can improve the lives of township dogs and prevent the cycle of unwanted litters.

How classes are going
For both class 17 and 18 and Edu Paw, Luthuli said that learners are eager and attentive.
“We are currently teaching the children about the freedoms of animal welfare. Freedom from discomfort, fear, distress, pain, injury and disease,” said Luthuli.
She explained that these are important principles to instill in children to ensure they care for their dogs with kindness and responsibility.
