Video reveals cause of Amanzimtoti scholar transport crash

A video released by a local security company of a scholar transport accident in Amanzimtoti provides more clarity on the incident.

SURVEILLANCE footage from ET Rapid Response’s extensive camera network system was received by the SUN showing the incident between a private vehicle and a scholar transport taxi near Hutchison Park, Amanzimtoti on April 24.

The incident led to two learners, aged five and 15, as well as an adult, being trapped in the vehicle. Emergency response units at the scene worked to extricate them.

The video revealed the cause of the incident in addition to capturing the entire timeline as the two motorists were driving.

Update from the learners’ mother

The learners’ mother, Thobile Zungu, confirmed that her youngest daughter, Lusanda Chili, was discharged and did not sustain any fractures, walking away with swollen tissues and bruises. Her oldest daughter, Zinathi, however, sustained serious bone fractures on both legs. She underwent surgery at St Anne’s Hospital in Pietermaritzburg on April 25, which went well. She is currently undergoing physiotherapy so she can learn to walk again.
