Stray Star saved by Pet Rescue Isipingo
A wandering stray was rescued by Pet Rescue Isipingo in the Isipingo Beach area and it is now being treated for a type of cancer.
AFTER several sightings of a wandering stray in the Isipingo Beach area, and reports of its abuse by passersby, Pet Rescue Isipingo sprung into action on September 11 to save the dog, named Star.

When a kind couple witnessed Star’s plight, they took her in and contacted founder of the NPO, Nirvana Ramlall, who promptly took her to a veterinarian for a check-up.
Star was diagnosed with a Transmissible Venereal Tumor (TVT), which is a contagious, sexually transmitted cancer that spreads between dogs through the transfer of living tumor cells during mating or direct social contact.
Symptoms of TVT
- Lumps or Growths: Red, fleshy, cauliflower-like masses usually found on the external genitalia (penis, prepuce, or vulva), but occasionally on the nose, mouth, or skin.
- Discharge: Bleeding, oozing, or abnormal fluid coming from the growth area.
- Discomfort: Difficulty urinating if the mass blocks the urinary tract.
The NPO’s Lalitha Mahadow said that Star has been admitted at Montclair Animal Hospital to be sterilised and treated.
“She had a string tied tightly on her neck. We suspect she may have escaped from people that had her confined. She was abused by people on the streets, being kicked at and hit with stones. She will need chemotherapy injections to get her well again and free of TVT,” said Mahadow.
She requested assistance from the community to cover Star’s veterinary costs, which stand at around R4000.
