Pre-scholars showed their support to eradicate polio by wearing their pyjamas to school for a R5 donation on World Polio Day.
World Polio Day was on October 24 and learners, parents and staff from Kidz R Us Playschool raised R595 which was donated to the Rotary E Club of SA One by wearing their pyjamas to school.
Iris Canham of the Dillon Trust and Rotary E Club of SA One, said the initiative, led by Hazel Murphy and her team at the school, shows their ongoing commitment to community involvement.

“It was aimed at supporting rotary’s contribution to Rotary International’s ongoing campaign to eradicate polio globally,” she said.
The funds were raised through the PJs for Polio campaign; encouraging learners in targeted schools to wear their pyjamas to school on World Polio Day. Each learner paid R5 towards the cause and enjoyed wearing their pyjamas and engaging in activities knowing that they were contributing to the eradication of polio.
Canham said, “Polio, a deadly viral disease that was once the leading cause of paralysis among children worldwide, is very close to being eradicated. The funds have been forwarded to the Rotary Foundation, which has been instrumental in reducing polio cases by over 99% worldwide.”
She expressed deep gratitude for the school’s support, adding that age was no barrier to making a difference, even among the youngest members of society.
