COMPETITIVE sprints, co-ordinated relay races and even parents putting themselves to the test on track was the order of the day at Doon Heights Primary School’s Foundation Phase Athletics event earlier this month.
The energy was electric from each of the three houses competing for the top spot, and parents eagerly matched it, showing their support for the children from start to finish.

The school’s teachers were tasked with accurately timing the young athletes.
Parents came out in numbers and passionately supported their children and their respective houses.
Leading the charge down the 60m sprint is Thandwa Mzele, followed by Manelisi Kowa, Muhle Shabane and Mnewethu Mkhize.
Emihle Mthembu, Khetho Mkhize, and Asephelele Ndlangisa were separated by about a metre as they raced down the track.
A highlight from the athletics was when parents took to the track to show support in a different way, competing in their own races once the young ones were done.
