Hutchison Park played host to several spirited rugby friendlies, giving fans an exciting community rugby treat to enjoy.

FANS of the Amanzimtoti Rugby Club (ARC) came out in numbers as the local side hosted an exciting community-based rugby event earlier this month.

Despite its lower stakes, the friendly match between ARC’s formidable first team and Umlazi-based Ogwini Bafana’s first team delivered in both its intensity and demonstration of skill.

Dr Mike Mthethwa, ARC club president, said fans supported their teams with enthusiasm and pride, and the event distinguished itself by producing thrilling on-field action and team spirit.

Ogwini Bafana’s passing action and co-ordination, though effective, was no match for ARC, whose attacking prowess led to a 36-0 victory over the visiting team.

“The boys from up north in Hluhluwe took on Ogwini Bafana’s first team afterwards, securing a decisive 52-13 win. Beyond the scorelines, the true highlight was the collective energy shared between players and supporters alike. Spirited community support and camaraderie among the teams reflect the growing momentum of grassroots rugby,” said Mthethwa.

He concluded by praising Amanzimtoti’s enthusiastic embrace of community rugby, which he believes signals a promising future for sporting development.
