EDITOR – Last week I responded to a report of an attempted housebreaking in Marion Road, St Winifreds, where alert neighbours had disturbed three thugs and were busy chasing them.
I heard the CCPO and Blue Security responded and rushed to the scene to assist.
On my arrival I helped CCPO, Blue, ET, and Toti CIDs as well as local residents in the chase. The criminals were making their way through a bushy area and were eventually chased into Rainbow Park, which is the beginning of Illovo Township, where they were running between the local houses pursued by every person and their dog.
After a while I heard on the radio that two suspects had been arrested and I made my way towards that particular area. On my arrival, I was astonished to find at least a dozen Rainbow Park residents had assisted them in the latter part of the chase, and we then had to restrain them from wanting to do these criminals some serious mob justice.
The gratifying thing about the entire incident was that the criminals had commited the crime in a predominately ‘white area’ but this didn’t deter these people from rendering their assistance. I have heard of this happening before, but have never personally witnessed it and it was heartening to witness, and gives us all hope that together we can slowly rid ourselves of this vermin that affects the very core of our existence.
Through the South Coast Sun, all who were involved in the chase would like to thank everyone who assisted us on the day. Hopefully we can team up again sometime and make a difference.

EDITOR – The incident in St Winifreds on the weekend where a family and their pets were attacked is another wake-up call to all those who still refuse to join the CCPO.
Wherever you are, don’t be fooled by the perceived safety afforded by your high walls, electrical fences, vicious dogs and so on – the only way to fight crime is high visibility. We all know SAP are never going to provide that, as they are understaffed and simply do not have the vehicles and resources.
If we had just half of the local residents supporting us, we could flood the area with vehicles and foot patrol guards and make it very difficult for these savages to get to us.
I have warned people via this media before but it looks like someone has to die a violent and bloody death before people take notice.
