Matric achievements a measure of teachers too

This milestone marks the culmination of 12 long years of study

THE matric class of 2013 should be congratulated on an impressive set of results, especially in Toti where a high percentage of distinctions were achieved.
This milestone marks the culmination of 12 long years of study, growth and maturation, and also heralds their entry into adulthood, a time when they take the next step to assuming complete responsibility for their lives.
While the results speak for themselves as a testament to the input and effort of the matriculants themselves, it is also a reflection of the commitment of their teachers.
Teaching is a calling – and a thankless task – until results of this calibre are turned in.
It takes hours in the classroom, often in less than ideal, overcrowded conditions, to relay knowledge and insight to what is not always a receptive bunch of teenagers.
It is sometimes a hit-and-miss exercise that can sometimes fail to land its message among the intended audience.
The educators responsible for this mammoth task are equally deserving of kudos in celebrating the achievements of the matric class of 2013.
