EDITOR – I refer to the article headlined ‘School grapples with cellphone thefts’ published in the 5 April edition of the SUN.
It’s disappointing when parents of this school have a meeting with the teachers, then backtrack by approaching the newspaper when their demands are not met. I don’t see how this solves anything, except displaying their narcissism and immaturity. Interesting! Deafening silence from Amanzimtoti High School and Kuswag parents.
The role of a school is to give children the best opportunity to learn. It’s not a vault/ safe for cell phones. When a teacher signed up for a job, the agreement was that he/ she would be paid to teach, not to guard phones.
Bullying and blaming teachers won’t get you anywhere. Actually it destroys teacher-parent-learner relationships, it’s demoralizing and discouraging. To solve a problem, you have to recognize your share of responsibility. Next time, before running to the newspaper, stop and ask yourself: is this adding or subtracting to the already full plates of teachers? How can I assist to reduce teachers workload?
