eThekwini remains inattentive to public swimming pool repairs [LETTER]

The public pool serves as a means for mothers to let their youngsters enjoy swimming without fear of being washed away in the currents and rips of the sea and generally a tourist ‘puller’.

EDITOR – Seemingly a forgotten entity – with reference to the article in the South Coast Sun of 12 March about plans to revive tourism underway.

Myself and many other locals sincerely hope that in the plans for the Sapphire Coast, the beach swimming pool on the rocks adjoining the Winklespruit swimming beach is soon restored to functionality. There is maintenance that needs to be done on this excellent facility and one wonders why it was not done during the long lockdown period.

This swimming pool is perfect for the many elderly living in the area, to enjoy some safe early morning exercise. A means for mothers to let their youngsters enjoy swimming without fear of being washed away in the currents and rips of the sea and generally a tourist ‘puller’.

Perhaps the local councillor for the ward can enlighten us through the medium of this local news publication of what plans, if any, are proposed and give some specific time frames as to when this public facility can be enjoyed as it should be.

And lack of funds is no excuse for nothing being done – the costs are relatively minimal in relation to the income from local rates. The expenses incurred would probably be no more than that normally spent on the eThekwini metro management councillor indaba’s catering and drink budget.
