Tokkie, Michelle triumph in Berea novice pairs
Having such strong novices promises good things for the future of the club.
TOTI Bowling Club swelled with the strains of the old Cliff Richards song ‘Congratulations’ as Tokkie de Kock and Michelle Pitchers returned triumphantly as this year’s winners of the Berea novice pairs competition.
Well done to them both. This is the third time the trophy has been won by a team from the club.
The first time was in 2004 by Robyn Hutton and Lynda Moeller, and the second time was by Amanda Ninow and Linda McGregor in 2011.
Having such strong novices promises good things for the future of the club.
In the men’s nominated pairs, Peter Callaghan and Mickey Roche made a huge comeback to beat Jeff van Belkum and Neil Wiggill, and Coy Schrauwen’s trips team have won through a preliminary round to the next leg of the men’s nominated trips. The first leg of the women’s drawn trips was held on Saturday, 16 November, despite the inclement weather.
The winning teams, skipped by Julie Sutherland, Nola Corrigall, Robyn Hutton, Barbara Beamson, Mardi Dovale and Doreen Salmond are asked to arrange their next game with their opposition at their own convenience.
Toti’s greens staff also entered a pairs team in the Collegians greens staff competition, and the club congratulates William and Innocent Sithole for winning fourth place. Well done.
The monthly ‘big chicks’ competition is a mixed fours club competition where winning teams win packets of chicken.
The top team for this month was Robyn Hutton, Nola and Tom Corrigall and Lynn Clifton. Jerry Gertzen and his team of Neville Roscoe, Tokkie and Kokkie de Kock were second with the team of Liz Morgan-Davies, Mike and Debbie Groom and Les Brown in third place.
First session winners were Clive and Meryl Hambley, and Duncan and Yvonne Wright.
The second session prize went to Noreen Butler, Dennis Hughes, Eric Klopper and Leigh Callaghan.
At the TGIF draw on Friday, 15 November Lynn Joubert and Delysia Mitchley both won wine, while Robbie Roberts won the meat. Mike Pitchers was present to receive the attendance prize for tab number 128, and so the draw will go back down to R100 for next week. Toti BC wishes Malinki van der Westhuizen, Adrie Harmse, Elsie Walker and all other members who are not well at the moment a speedy return to full health, and hopes to see all back at the club soon.
Several members are celebrating birthdays this week, so birthday greetings go to Rob McDuling, Tony Darley, and Talla Stephens-Viviers, Cathy Harding and Denny Deysschen.
