Rose and thorn golfers to contest fourball

News from the course is that the handicap sadists cut poor Peter Avellini by several shots over the past few days.

THE weather continues to play havoc with golfing fixtures at Amanzimtoti Golf Club (AGC), with Friday’s sundowner cancelled once again due to heavy rainfall and high winds.

However, the upside of all the rain is that the greens look stunning and are playing better than they have for a long time.

Even the GUR patches on the first and second greens are recovering at a rapid rate, and the club thanks Errol Woods and his staff for their foresight in effecting the repairs when they did.

News from the course is that the handicap sadists cut poor Peter Avellini by several shots over the past few days; nothing like losing three shots in just over two weeks to make one consider turning professional.

With this in mind, Peter will be giving lessons every Wednesday and Friday after golf. Included in his tutoring will be how to swipe your card timeously after a round of golf, and how to three putt to avoid having two exceptional rounds within one week.

The Wednesday IPS competition hosted a great field of 37 players, and Brian Stewart showed the rest of the players a clean set of heels with a tidy 43 points, from Colin Scorer on 41 and visitor Brian Aldgate coming in third on 40 oco.

On Saturday the women played a 4BBB format, and taking home the top prize were the pairing of Sue Boucher and Gill Symons with a fine 45 points. The nearest the pin on the 15th went to Sue Daniels who stuck her tee shot within two metres, but was unable to convert the putt for a two-club.

The men played a fourball alliance, and winners on the day were the team of Peter Avellini, Norbert Dupont, Nic Brits and Brian Stewart with 109 points. In second place on 107 points were Mike Halse, Chris van Oudshoorn, Hugh Turnbull and Rob Symons, their pivot. The two nearest the pins went to Ernie Crots on the seventh and Wesley Dalton on the 17th. The jackpot was won by Mike Igesund and Billy Williamson went home early to ensure a carryover for the attendance prize.

Last reminder, the AGM takes place on Monday, 25 November at 5.30pm, and all members are asked to attend.

The lists for nominations are up on the notice board, and the club urges members to consider who they would have working for them on the committee next year.

The women will host their annual rose and thorns competition on Monday, 16 December.

Three men (aka the thorns) and one woman (aka the rose) to play in each fourball, hence the name of the event. Tee off between 11am and noon on both tee boxes, and normal green fees apply plus R30 competition per player.

AGC welcomes visitors to join in on the day for a pleasant round of golf on a beautiful course. Contact the Toti pro shop on 031-902-1166 to book a time.
