Snakes and ladders bowls will become a regular monthly feature.

AMANZIMTOTI Bowls Club (ABC) congratulates Tokkie de Kock on getting through the qualifying masters last weekend.

She will now play in the Port Natal women’s open masters competition in July.

Better luck next year to those who didn’t quite make it this time. Congratulations also go to Robyn Hutton, Julie Sutherland, Amanda Ninow and Tokkie de Kock who won a session prize and were joint third out of 40 teams in the Margate competition, but came fourth on a points count-out.

Last weekend was very busy at the club, with lots of men’s competitions being played. Peter Callaghan, Ian Mills and Micky Roche sustained an early lead to win the semi-final of the nominated trips, defeating Glen Scorgie, Alan Smith and Mike Pitchers. In the drawn pairs, Lofty van Tonder and Colin Coetzee also maintained steady pressure to beat Doug Joubert and Jeff van Belkum. However, the main competition of the weekend was the men’s handicap singles.

In round one the winners were Greg McLeod over Peter Snyman; Dave Kemp over Dallas Davis; Carl van Heerden over Doug Joubert and Colin Coetzee over Ray Robinson. In round two the winners were Vince Phaal over Dave McMillan; Trevor Dempsey over Coy Schrauwen; Colin Coetzee over Dave Kemp; Mike Pitchers over Bobby Henderson; Clive Frank over Innocent Sithole; Ian Crouch over Jeff van Belkum; William Sithole over Glen Scorgie; Alf Bingham over Vince Marriot; Lofty van Tonder over Mike Roberts; Kokkie de Kock over Barry Buckland; Adie Fuller over Robbie Roberts, and Peter Barnes by default over Chris Whitlock.

After leading strongly for most of the game in women’s handicap singles, Leonie Mills was overtaken by Maxien Barnes on the last end. In the same competition Nola Corrigall lost to Doreen Salmond. However, Nola Corrigall showed her style in the open singles, winning her game against Gayle Windrim. In two senior singles games Marion Crouch beat Noreen Butler, and Maggie Robertson lost to Barbara Beamson.

In the nominated pairs, Pam Chalder-Royle and Jenny Delport were defeated by Doreen Salmond and Marion Crouch, while Robyn Hutton and Val de Kok won their game against Julie Sutherland and Jacqui Fouché in good style.

At TGIF, Dave McMillan who was present won R250 in the attendance draw, so next week it’s back to R100. The 100 board was won by Peter Callaghan, Neville Roscoe won the meat, and wine was won by Jeanne Alexander and Callie Boyd.

Birthday greetings this week go to Nola Corrigall, Tonja Blom, Alan Finley, Robbie Roberts, Les Brown and Dave McMillan. Any members not in the best of health are wished a speedy recovery.
