Men’s league golfers put up good fight against Kloof
A reminder, AGC is holding an Elvis evening on Saturday, 16 August.

AT Amanzimtoti Golf Club (AGC) all three men’s league teams did battle on Sunday, with varying results.
On paper it would appear that the premier side were annihilated, but when one takes into account that nine of the 12 matches played went all the way to the 17th hole, it shows AGC definitely has the capability to compete away from home, and against top level opposition.
They played Kloof who currently lead the league, and the venue was Kloof, so all in all the AGC men had their work cut out for them. Final score was a rather sad looking 11/1 to Kloof. Congratulations to Mark Cowie who was the only player on the day to bring in any points for his team, winning his singles game two up.
MECC ended Zululand’s premier league aspirations by thumping them in resounding fashion, which has definitely secured the team’s position in this division for 2015.
The B side travelled to Papwa Sewgolam to take on Cato Ridge, and raced into the lead after the foursomes games, with Ian Bender and Bruce Whiting leading the pack with a solid 5/4 victory. Kevin Wehrle and Robert Roux won by the same margin, while Murray Dalton and Matthew Hamer took their game all the way to the 18th hole, finally winning one up. Chris Tredoux and Faraan Khader went down 5/4 to their opponents.
In the singles games all but Ian, Chris and Faraan won their games, giving AGC a very good 8/4 win.
The Allerton team played MECC at Toti, and this game was played in wonderful spirit which made it a most enjoyable spectating event. The Toti boys turned three and half points up, and with the exception of the club captain Tommy ‘Piggy’ McNaughton, all the players halved or won their singles matches, giving AGC a good 10/2 victory.
On Wednesday 30 players competed in the IPS competition, with Wik van Wyk blowing away the field with an amazing 48 points, followed by Les Brown winning the count out on 38. Lucy Pienaar was once again in the prizes, counting out Colin Scorer into 4th place. Of interest is that Wikus shot his age, 78 lusty blows. Rather mind-boggling, but well done Wik.
The Friday nine hole sundowner competition attracted a field of 32 players, being won on 23 points by Andy Saywerth, followed by Kushen Naidoo on 22, and Rob Wilson in third on 21 points.
Monthly medal was the order of the day for the men and women members on Saturday, with Delene Berry taking the honours in the silver division by beating Gerda Heydenrych on 75 nett oco, and Sue Boucher beating Ina de Boer on 73 nett also oco to win the bronze division. Least putts on the day were won by Gerda Heydenrych with 28 putts, while Gill Symons was nearest the pin on the seventh hole. Jacqui Porrill may not have shone result-wise, but she did manage to pick up the jackpot, which was well in excess of R1,400.
The men’s A division winner was none other than Clive Fryer, who shot the lights out to score 79/70, followed by Peter Dalton with 80/71. The B division was won by Bobby Milne with 82/69 and Brian Stewart in second place on 87/73. The C division winner was Greg Veldtman 89/67 with Sean Punjabi Mellon in second spot on 90/69.
Best gross on the day was Clive Fryer, and best nett Greg Veldtman. Nearest the pin on the 15th was won by Rex Parsons, and neither the jackpot nor the attendance draw were won so carry over to next week.
