Toti gets Reddy for cricket season

Amanzimtoti has always had serious talent and now, with a serious coach, promotion is surely within its reach.

AMANZIMTOTI Cricket Club’s pre-season kicked off on the last Sunday of August with the arrival of new coach, Desigan Reddy.

Currently involved with the Dolphin Academy, KZN U17 side and the Dolphins B side, he brings a fresh dynamic to Amanzimtoti Cricket Club.

Desigan has made it clear that his aim is to not only get Toti back into the premier league but to have them stay there and compete. His initial goal though is to get the club and its players into shape before the start of the new season, which kicks off on 28 September.

“Play like you practise and practise like you play,” he likes to say. Practises consist of fitness and co-ordination drills, skills improvement and stamina assessments.

Desigan comes with a wealth of knowledge, and his involvement with Amanzimtoti Cricket club can only be a huge step in the right direction. With very structured sessions, Tuesdays being mainly fitness, Fridays aimed more at skills and Saturday and Sundays mainly focusing on batting and bowling, Toti has not seen this kind of professionalism for quite some time. It’s amazing that after just six sessions, everyone can already see the improvements of all the players involved.

“No-one’s position is safe,” says Desigan. You have to earn your place in his team, commitment, training and attitude all play a part. “If I can make the effort to get to practise, I expect all players to make an effort to get there.” With this new philosophy and his engaging training sessions, there is a good vibe and team spirit within Toti Cricket Club and it is easy to see why the players have bought into Desigan’s way of thinking.

Practise times for seniors has been pushed closer to 5pm, making training more accessible to those who work late. Toti cricket nets should soon have lights for their practises, which will allow for later training within the next few weeks. For players who cannot make practises on certain days, it is important that they contact the club administrators, coaches, managers or captains and let them know they won’t be able to make practises.

Practise times for September: Senior practices are on Tuesdays at 4.45pm and Fridays at 4.45pm and pre-season and weekend training is on Saturdays and Sundays from 9.30am to 11.30am at the Toti Oval nets. Friendly matches are included towards the end of the month, which constitutes as practise.

Junior practises started on Monday, 8 September from 4.30pm and Wednesdays from 4.30pm at the Toti Oval nets.

If you or anyone you know wants to get involved, go down during practise.
