Cricket match abandoned due to rain

Just like last week, both Kyles started well and within the first 10 overs Toti had dismissed two of the Simplex batsmen for just 49 runs.

TOTI 1st XI travelled to Siripat to take on Simplex for their first game of the 2014/15 season under grey skies and a heavy threat of rain.

After a Desigan-inspired warm-up session ACC was ready to start their 50 overs on a cold windy morning, captain Jarryd Michaux started well by losing the toss. On such a miserable grey morning ACC had wanted to field and to to their surprise Simplex chose to bat first which was just fine by the visitors.

Just like last week, both Kyles started well and within the first 10 overs Toti had dismissed two of the Simplex batsmen for just 49 runs. Sheldon was introduced as the first change but unfortunately conditions were tough and the young left seamer battled to find his rhythm.

Simplex continued to lose wickets at regular intervals with some good bowling by Trevor who was rewarded with 2 wickets off his 4 overs and with the introduction of spin by Jarryd and Brian, Toti were able to pick up the wicket of the big hitting Kersin on 21 leaving the in-form opener Ali at the crease on 78 after having been dropped earlier in his innings.

Cameron's spell of just 6 runs from 4 overs meant Simplex were short on runs and with rain threatening the skipper's decision to bring Kyle Jones back into the attack was rewarded with a perfect example of tail end bowling when he picked up 5 wickets in 3 overs including the wicket of Ali caught on 80 by Ross at mid wicket leaving Simplex all out for a low 147 runs.

With only 147 to chase, spirits were high and the Toti batters were eager to get back onto the field but when a few spots of rain started to fall during the break, the umpires decided to take an early lunch hoping for conditions to improve, unfortunately the conditions only worsened and the matched was abandoned leaving Toti with a no result. Hopefully this coming weekend is warm and sunny.

Toti 2nd XI however were rewarded with a win when the opposition didn't show at ACC for there first match of the season and so the guys took it upon themselves to arrange some practise in the cold conditions with an impromptu six-a-side match. Fun was had by all and the boys ended the day just minutes before the heavens opened.

Practises will continue during the week, Tuesdays and Fridays at 5pm for seniors and Mondays and Wednesdays at 4.30pm for juniors.
