Good turn-out for nipper training

See you on the beach.

IT WAS a cold and fairly wet Sunday morning at Winklespruit Lifesaving Club when nipper officer, Gary Barber arrived at the beach dreading the thought that only a few nippers would arrive for training, after all he had gone to bed early in order to be fresh for training.

To his pleasant surprise, the masses arrived and a very good training session was held with a mini competition comprising of beach events enjoyed by the nippers. A reminder that training starts at 8.30am every Sunday and anyone who would like to take their children down to the beach are more than welcome.

The juniors also had a good training session and well done to the duty squad for lasting the entire day in really miserable conditions.

This past week saw members scoop many sports awards at the Kingsway High School prize-giving with Bianca Potgieter leading the way as well as being chosen as the sports girl of the year. Holly Koning, Michela Parker, Megan Barber and Daniel Rohde also excelled. On Friday night their matric dance was held and Bianca, Holly and Megan really looked stunning.

On Saturday, members enjoyed the rugby at the club as well as the informal function held for Brad McCann on his achievement as SA surf lifesaver of the year. It was good to see Kevin and Lauren (beach ball) Thole down at the club – there is a nipper on the way. Rumour has it that Paula really enjoyed the evening. See you on the beach.
