Off-road bikers revved to ride for ‘Mountain Goat’

The ride is open to dirt bikes, size doesn’t matter.

Sunday, 11 January is a special one for off-road bike enthusiasts.
A fundraising ride takes place at Roseleigh near Umbumbulu on the R603 in honour of Mervyn ‘Mountain Goat’ Marais, former chairman and stalwart of WFO (Wide Full Open) Enduro Association, who died on 9 December after a short illness.
“All proceeds of the ride will go to Sarah, his wife and Ashleigh and Alexandra, his daughters to help cover some of the medical costs they’re facing,” said organiser, John Pauling.
For all those who have ridden in KZN, show your support and come along to help the Marais family with some of the costs they’ve incurred with Mervyn’s illness.”
The ride is open to dirt bikes, size doesn’t matter.
The course is about 35km and is a proper fun, flowing ride with short-cuts for the small and intermediate riders and enough ‘interesting’ stuff for the hotshots to have a good day.
“Rob Gurney’s farm Roseleigh is the venue of South Africa’s first ever harescramble and has been voted ‘course of the year’ many times, so you know the ride will be a real good one plus the South Coast Motor Sport Club members are setting it, so it’s guaranteed you’ll have a pile of fun,” said John.
“The cost of the ride will be the usual R150, but we’re asking if you can dig a bit deeper, as Mervyn and Sarah put their lives into the sport, so it’s time to give back a bit.”
More information is available on the Dirtfest website www.dirtfest.co.za, or call John on 082-333-9967.
“Tell your mates, get them together and come and have an excellent season opener and a bit of fun.”

“Registration opens at about 7.30am, the course opens at 10am and closes at 2pm – that’s four hours for you to do as many laps as you like. The start time may change, so keep checking the website.
Please help by pre-entering, as we need to know roughly how many people need to be catered for.
We’re not asking you to get technical and download a form, you can do the paperwork when you get there. All we’d like you to do is make a interweb transfer, or go into your bank and do it, using your name as reference and then mail the proof of payment to wfo@webmail.co.za.”
