Winkle SLC’s Garth wins single ski race
Caitlin Peche, Janine Le Roux and Jeahne Harford passing their nipper level exams.

THE past week was certainly one of achievements at Winklespruit Surf Lifesaving Club, starting on Friday evening with the ski race series in Durban, where Garth Hazell won the men’s short course single ski race with Gene Prato coming fourth in the men’s long course single ski race.
The darts evening was well attended and rumour has it that some of the women have had a misspent youth as they were hustlers of note.
Saturday saw the arrival of a healthy baby boy, bringing immense joy to Kevin and Lauryn Thole. Congratulations.
The roofing was also completed on Saturday by Skye Prato and his bunch of merry men. It really looks good, many thanks to all who helped on this project.
Sunday morning saw an early start for the LJA/LA exams in horrific seas. Well done to Wade Young, Charles Mitchell, Danica Taljaard and Campbell Alanthwaite who passed. Congratulations to instructor, Tyler Main for all the hard work and presenting a well-prepared class.
Next it was the turn of the nippers with Slade Nuyten, Kimberley Le De Boer, Aiden Bentley, Samantha Kleinschmidt, Caitlin Peche, Janine Le Roux and Jeahne Harford passing their nipper level exams.
The masters have started training, watch this space as we will have a weekly report on pulled fat and other associated injuries. Winkle will be putting in a team at Natal Masters in March so all you old bullets get moving.
Sunday, 1 February sees Winkle hosting the KZN Junior Lifesaving championships, so get down to the beach to watch and support your local clubs. There will be nipper training as usual as we prepare for the KZN South Nipper championships in Scottburgh on Sunday, 15 February.
