Bruce blasts his way to monthly medal A division golf win
Club Wednesday competition that took place on 4 March.
The two women’s South Coast Region golf teams, Umdoni and Mkuhla, fared very differently in the first round of the Inter Region competition, with the Umdoni girls winning comfortably against the Midlands whilst the Mkuhla team went down to Durban Region.
This puts Umdoni through to the second round of the trophy event, while our other team will compete for the plate. Well done to all the ladies who competed, and hopefully the SCR will bring the trophy home this year.
Late recognition must be made of Etienne Botha who scored a perfect fluke during the Amanzimtoti Golf Club Wednesday competition that took place on 4 March. Unfortunately all that was recorded on the score sheet was the surname and no newspaper accolades were awarded by this scribe. So, Etienne, congratulations on acing the 17th hole, may you have many more holes-in-one in your golfing future.
On Wednesday the IPS competition was host to 28 players, and Johnny Vogel took the honours with 41 points, followed by Tommy McNaughton on 40 and Martin Tait on 38 points in third place.
The Friday nine hole sundowner competition attracted 35 players, and once again the intrepid Bobby Milne walked off with the kudos, scoring 21 points and counting out Jason Moriarty into second place. Third was Willem van Deventer on 19 points.
Saturday’s monthly medal was a one horse race in the A division, with Bruce Whiting blowing the field away with his 72-5-67 round, followed by evergreen Ronnie Nair on 80-9-71. The B division winner was Jason Nel with a fine 78-10-68, with Perry Gengan in second place on 86-16-70. Brian Amm won the C division from Peter Wallace, both shooting 90-21-69. Best gross and best nett was won by Bruce Whiting, with Jason Nel taking second place in both categories. Cecil Heydenrych was nearest the pin on the 7th hole, and Errol Woods lost out on the attendance prize by leaving the clubhouse before prize-giving.
The women played IPS, and Gill Symons made a decent score of 39 points to take top spot, followed by Charmain Stone on 36 and Colleen Smit on 35. Jebby Dyson was nearest the pin on the 4th hole, and for the record the fundraising beer raffle winner was Rob Symons.
From 19 to 21 April, Elsune Roode will be competing in the Sanlam South Africa Amateur 2015 strokeplay championships which will be played at Glendower, and AGC wishes her the best of luck for the competition.
