THE river that bisects Amanzimtoti Golf Club’s course is starting to show signs of clearing up, thanks to the good rains over the past two weeks.
The rain has made a good job of washing the muck that has fouled the river for the past few months out to sea.
The rain has also meant a huge improvement on the fairways and greens, which is always welcome to all ardent golfers.
Huge thanks from all the club members go to Shirley and Norman Petzer who oversee the gardens and clubhouse surrounds, all in their own time and mostly out of their own pockets too. They arranged two hampers for raffle prizes, with Sue Conlan taking home the first prize and Nigel Johnson the second prize. Shirley and Norman, your unwavering support for the club is greatly appreciated.
Last Wednesday there were 28 players competing in the midweek IPS, and Martin Tait once again took the honours with 39 points, followed by Wesley Bowles on 38 and Tommy McNaughton on 36.
The Friday nine-hole sundowner was contested by 30 players, and won by Chris Coetzee on 21 points. In second place was Norbert Dupont on 20 and Jason Moriarty finished third with 18 points.
The women played 4BBB on Saturday and Lynette Roodt and Ina de Boer took top place on a very solid 43 points, followed by Estelle Binnekade and Wladzia Olivier with 36 points. Charmain Stone was nearest the pin on the 4th hole.
The men played their annual turkey trot, also a 4BBB format. Top honours and the biggest birds were won by Mike Hale and Terry Cousins with 50 points and Rob Kruger partnered by Brian Rhodes beat Bruce Whiting and Ian Bender into third place by a count out, both pairs finishing on 46 points. Bruce picked up nearest the pin on the 7th while Tommy McNaughton was closest on the 17th. The jackpot was won by Terry Cousins, and Colin Scorer lost out on the attendance prize as he had already gone home by the time the draw took place.
