AMANZIMTOTI Bowling Club is proud of its two women’s teams who played so well in the Port Natal trips competition.

Runners-up were Jenny Delport, Denise Bingham and Val de Kok; and in third place were Elsie Walker, Tokkie de Kock and Amanda Ninow.

Both teams lost their final games by one shot, so it was a great effort. A special mention must be made of Barbara Beamson, Jeanne Alexander and Nita Meumann who got to the last 16, and sadly also lost by one shot.

Barbara Beamson, Marion Crouch and Mike Pitchers, who were the only unbeaten team, were the winners of the Hypersure mixed trips which came to its conclusion on Friday at ABC.

Runners-up were Greg McLeod and Alec and Nicky Stirzaker; and third place were the popular team of Talla Stephens-Viviers, Dave McMillan and Lesley Stephens-Viviers. Plate B winners were Peter Callaghan, Ian Mills and Michelle Pitchers; and in second place were Jeff van Belkum, Terry Morgan and Margaret van Belkum. The session winners over the six weeks were Barry Simpson, Dave Kemp and Jacqui Fouché; Glen Scorgie, Pam Chalder-Royle and Eric Klopper; Lofty van Tonder, Robyn Hutton and Jackie Holdrick; Mike Groom, Jeanne Alexander and Neville Roscoe; Tony Cam and Alan and Linda McGregor; and Vera Broskie with substitutes Keith Berry and Lys McDonald. The sportsman’s prize went to Sue Welch, Kokkie de Kock and Wessie van der Westhuizen. Dave Gardner won the chocolate.

Many thanks to main sponsor, Peter Brown of Hypersure, and to Paula and Shelly-Anne for handing out prizes, as well as doing the lucky draws which were won by Fiona van Rensburg, Linda McGregor, Alec Stirzaker, Mike Groom, Margaret van Belkum, Vera Broskie, Heather Brown, Ian McDonald, Denise Bingham and Boet Els. Thanks to score keepers Alan McGregor and Neville Roscoe, as well as green keepers and bar staff, and the committee and all the players for taking part.

Guelfo Cobianchi won the 100 board at TGIF; but as social member Heidi Smit was not in attendance for the draw, next week’s prize is worth R650. Excitement mounted for the must-win key draw. Ten people tried their luck until Ian (Supermac) McDonald opened the box and walked away with the R10,000 prize. Along the way Gwyn McLeod, Jacqui Birch, Toni Roberts and the “Damagers” won R100 each. Next week the key draw will be worth R1,000. This is for members only.

Several first round games of open singles were played. In the men’s results, Jeff van Belkum beat Ian Crouch, Glen Scorgie defeated Martin Young, Clive Frank overcame Mike Roberts, Dave McMillan beat Vince Phaal, Lofty van Tonder beat Mike Pitchers, Andrew Walker got the better of Leon van Rensburg, Boet Els beat Doug Joubert, Greg McLeod defeated Barry Bush, Dennie Denysschen beat Bobby Henderson, and Alan McGregor overcame Gustav Somers. In the women’s competition Jackie Holdrick defeated Marie van der Walt, Lynn Joubert beat Michelle Pitchers, Robyn Hutton won over Karen Shepherd, Linda McGregor beat Maggie Robertson, and Leonie Mills overcame Joan van Rensburg.

In the women’s mutton, some of which were played in 332 format, the winners were Heather Brown, Lynn Joubert and Lys McDonald. Runners-up were Julie Sutherland, Nita Meumann, Maureen Crawford and Karen Shepherd. First session went to Sue Welch, Joan van Rensburg and Margaret van Belkum; and the second session was won by Marion Crouch, Doreen Salmond, Leigh Callaghan and Adrienne Robbins. The men’s mutton was won by Ian Crouch, Lofty van Tonder, Barry Bush and John Allers; in second place were Dave Gardner, Jock Meldrum, Shayne Tocher and Herbert Hofmann. Duncan Wright, Doug Walton, William Sithole and Trevor Zulch took the 1st session. Peter Callaghan, Ian Mills, Dallas Davis and Colin Coetzee won the second session. The next mutton is 24 April because of Easter.

Well done to Andy McDonald, Mervyn Conway and Alec and Nicky Stirzaker for coming second in the prestigious Stewart Weaver International Tournament at The Nest.
