Local nippers make waves at SA champs

Gold medal goes to U10 male Richard Delvin.

MORE than 700 participants between 9 and 14-years-old competed in the 2016 nippers national championships hosted by Durban Surf Lifesaving Club at Addington Beach from 31 March to 2 April.

Local lifesaving clubs competed in the nipper movement’s surf and beach events. In the end gold medals went to:

U10 male Richard Delvin (Scottburgh) beach flags; U11 male Kyle Pottinger (Warnadoone) beach flags; U12 female Christina Stanton (Scottburgh) beach flags; U12 male Kai Coetzee (Warnadoone) run swim run.

Silver medals:

U10 boys Wade Erwee (Winklespruit) beach flags; U10 girls Amber Edwards (Scottburgh) beach sprint and beach run; U12 girls Christina Stanton (Scottburgh) beach run and beach sprint; U12 boys Tiaan Lyon (Winklespruit) beach run.

Bronze medals: U9 girls Emily Atkinson (Warnadoone) body board; U9 boys Keith Ward (Winklespruit) beach flags and beach sprints; U10 boys Richard Delvin (Scottburgh) beach sprint; U10 girls Amber Edwards (Scottburgh) beach sprint and beach run; U11 boys Kyle Pottinger (Warnadoone) beach sprint; U13 boys Christopher Henwood (Warnadoone) beach run.
