Two semi-final cricket matches rained out, one lost

Waterlogged cricket pitches made play impossible for Amanzimtoti Cricket Club's first team and women's team last weekend.

AMANZIMTOTI Cricket Club’s (ACC) first-team and women’s team’s semi-finals were called off due to rain on October 20, while the veterans’ team lost their semi-final on October 19.

ACC’s veterans hosted King Cetshwayo Cricket District’s (KCCD) veterans at the Toti Oval in one of the two semi-finals of the KZN Castle Veterans T20 Competition. The club’s scribe, Peter Lonie, said the visitors won the toss and elected to bowl first.

“Captain Marc Shepard anchored the home side’s innings with a fine 56 runs with Marius Labuschagne scoring 16 runs. After the allotted 20 overs, ACC had scored 100/7. KCCD reached the required target of 101 runs in the 14th over for the loss of one wicket, winning the semi-final by 9 wickets,” he said.

Labuschagne claimed the host’s only wicket.

The next morning, the first team and women’s team were met with waterlogged outfields and soaking rain at home, with no possibility of play on either oval.

Lonie said, “The result of the women’s match will be decided on a still-to-be-done toss of a coin, while the first team will advance to the final of the KZN Castle Premier T20 Competition, having topped Pool B.”
