Kingsway High School’s Nkanyezi Nzama achieved the man of the match award for his immense impact in the U18 rugby final on March 7, where the school’s side were runners-up to Gelofte Skool.

Sports administrator Maryke Pieters said, “Our first teams for rugby, netball and hockey played their hearts out for four weeks to be the best. We are proud to announce that our hockey side beat Waterfall College 1-0 to win the bronze medal. Our rugby team played in the finals and ended up conceding with an 8-15 scoreline against Gelofte Skool and we won the silver medal. Nkanyezi Nzama’s constant energy and commitment made an undeniable impact and out of all the players on the field, he was the best player.”

Players of the match for each respective sporting code received an Aquellé Viv from Aquellé, a protein bar sponsored by Bargain Basket and a R50 gift voucher from Spur.

Kuswag Skool’s U19 hockey side were runners-up in the finals and the school’s U19 netball side achieved third place.

Amanzimtoti Primary School shone brightly and earned the title of U13 hockey champions, while Warner Beach Preparatory School (WBPS) were the runners-up in the hotly contested final. Amanzimtoti Primary again impressed as its U13 netball side came second.

WBPS departmental head for sports and marketing, Wade Botha, said, “It was an exciting 30 minutes of hockey, despite controlling the game and possession of the ball, the score was deadlocked at 0-0. Extra time was awarded and a missed penalty corner resulted in a sudden death penalty shootout. Unfortunately, it was not to be, but a massive improvement from last year’s 4th place and with the whole season to come, these girls mean business.”
