Rhythmic gymnastics is a seamless combination of dancing and gymnastics using handheld apparatus such as ribbons, balls, hoops, ropes and clubs. The resulting display of remarkable bodily control, elegance and coordination make for a spectacle of physical artistry.

The club sent 17 gymnasts to compete on the national stage in their individual level four to eight routines, as well as in group routines. Five of the girls received apparatus and overall medals for their individual routines and two out of four groups placed overall.

Teegan Gezane and club leader, Jessica Odendaal, judged at the event, while coaches, Kelly Lightfoot and Lindy Botha accompanied the girls.

Jessica said the girls performed exceptionally well at the competition this year.

“The competition from other provinces such as Gauteng and the Western Cape was very stiff. The girls worked hard throughout the year in preparation as it is the highlight of their year. We also received new set routines for the next eight years, of which the girls competed for the first time this year. The standard is much higher than the previous routines, and the girls rose to the challenge. As club leader, I’m very proud of them and their achievements,” said Jessica.
