The 35 runners from Amanzimtoti will be part of the field of 21 633 entrants who will set off from Durban on an 85.777km “up-run” to Pietermaritzburg on June 14. Warren Gibson, Amanzimtoti’s running captain, said he is feeling good even though the wait for the big day has been long.

“The training has been on par, and I’ve done 1 400km to date in kilometres for the year, building up. I’ll be competing in my 11th Comrades. I’m looking forward to it,” said Gibson.

The Amanzimtoti team is a mix of experienced Comrades runners and novices. Shane Venter and Menzi Ntuli are some of those who will be doing their back-to-back runs.

Gibson wished his runners well for race day.
