First-team cricketers get season off to a winning start
At the start of the 47th over, the umpires suspended play due to inclement weather. Amanzimtoti Cricket Club's first team won by 6 runs.
AMANZIMTOTI Cricket Club’s (ACC) first-team got their KZN Castle Premier League campaign off to a winning start at home on November 3, with a dramatic 6 run victory.
ACC’s captain, Tegan Naidoo, won the toss with Chatsworth Sporting Cricket Club and elected to bat first. The club’s scribe, Peter Lonie, said a wicket in the 7th over brought Luc Kanda to the crease and he and opener Gareth Lonie consolidated ACC’s innings with a 64 run partnership before Lonie was dismissed for 35.

“Kanda batted on and was eventually dismissed in the 43rd over for a superb innings of 83 runs. Dale Kinsey’s 26 and 17 from Dillon Bryan saw ACC to 240/9 in their 50 overs,” he said.

Chatsworth Sporting’s openers got the visitors innings off to a good start with an opening partnership of 129 runs before Rob Ackermann claimed ACC’s first wicket. Lonie said a wicket each for Kanda and Luc Jacobs saw Chatsworth Sporting’s score move on to 206/3 in the 40th over – well ahead of the Duckworth Lewis Stern (DLS) par score.
“Some superb captaincy, bowling and fielding brought about a batting collapse where 6 wickets fell for the addition of just 20 runs. Two wickets from Lonie, two from Dylan Labuschagne, a run out from Bryan and a wicket from Tylor Trenoweth saw Chatsworth Sporting’s total at 226/9 at the end of 46 overs, now behind the DLS par score,” he said.
One ball was bowled in the 47th over before the umpires suspended play due to inclement weather.
Lonie said, “With bad light and lightning around and no prospect of further play, the game was called.”
ACC’s first-team won by 6 runs on the DSL method.
