The cup began on November 22, with a total of 18 development teams duking it out across the Umkhumbi, Sesifikile and Ezimangweni sports fields. Amanzimtoti Local Football Association (LFA) president Skhulu Hlophe said that the battles were intense, as only eight teams would get a chance at the grand final berth.

“The much anticipated match day did not disappoint. LFA coaches arrived early to set up the goal posts and nets, and the arrival of our sponsors, L&J Tools, lifted the mood, providing banners and a gazebo. Spectators got to witness a fantastic day of football unfold,” said Hlophe.

The grand final saw giants, Durban South Academy take on BvB. Each team took to the field and BvB got off to great start and early lead, however, persistence from Durban South Academy players paid off as they managed to get an equaliser to hold out the match.

“Penalties were the only thing that could separate the teams. The pressure proved too much for BvB as they missed two of their kicks. Durban South came out on top after converting every single penalty, winning the match 4-2 on penalties,” said Skhulu.
