Amanzimtoti rugby talent take on Lancaster Grammar School
It was a showdown between rugby youth from Amanzimtoti and Lancaster in a series of friendlies as part of Lancaster Grammar School's SA tour.
AMANZIMTOTI Youth Rugby Club (AYRC) proudly welcomed Lancaster Grammar School (LGS) from the UK as part of the school’s multi-city South African rugby tour, creating a memorable day of international sportsmanship, cultural exchange and high-energy rugby on July 20.

Chairperson of AYRC, Dirk Smit, explained that LGS’ tour aims to expose young athletes to South Africa’s renowned rugby culture, competitive playing standards and diverse communities.
Amanzimtoti was selected as a key stop on the tour, offering the visitors a blend of coastal hospitality and strong youth rugby development. The touring squad arrived with their U17, U18, and U19 teams, each eager to test their skills against local talent. Amanzimtoti Youth Rugby Club hosted a series of fixtures, giving players from both countries the chance to learn from one another.
“The matches drew enthusiastic support from parents, club members, and local residents. Each age group delivered fast‑paced, physical rugby that showcased the depth of youth talent on both sides. Off the field, Lancaster Grammar School students experienced Amanzimtoti’s warm community spirit. The club ensured the visitors enjoyed local cuisine, beachfront downtime, and a welcoming environment that reflected South Africa’s passion for rugby and hospitality,” said Smit.
Coaches praised the level of sportsmanship and the willingness of players to engage, learn, and push themselves in unfamiliar conditions while club officials expressed hope that this exchange will grow into a long‑term partnership, opening doors for future tours, shared development programmes, and ongoing collaboration between the two rugby communities.
