School hockey teams pass, dribble and shoot on tournament day

Six local schools across three junior primary grades met at Amanzimtoti Primary School for a friendly, fun-filled tournament.

THE first of two mini-hockey tournaments hosted by Amanzimtoti Primary School (APS) is done and dusted after 48 teams competed on the school’s fields on May 10.

Schools including Athlone Park, Scottburgh and Umkomaas Primary schools as well as Warner Beach Preparatory School and Kuswag Skool joined the Grades 1-3 boys and girls from APS.

APS departmental head Fanie Hennop said, “The boys and girls played their hearts out, learnt new skills and made many new friends. A beautiful, sunny Saturday set the stage, allowing the teams and their parents to enjoy the fun and festive atmosphere. From passionate plays to great sportsmanship, the day was a celebration of youth, teamwork and the love of the game. Thank you to every player, coach, parent and supporter who made the day unforgettable. We are already looking forward to the next tournament on May 31.
