School mates to get together

The reunion is for all the people who lived in the area in the 60s and 70s.

If you grew up in the Upper South Coast area in the 1960s or 70s, get to Lords and Legends for a Toti’ites 60s and 70s Reunion on Saturday, 19 July.

Grant Morris started a Facebook page for the group last year and it now boasts 1,557 members. “I started this Facebook group in September when I was shown a list of about 40 people from Toti that I had grown up with,” said Grant.

“I was shocked to find out that they had all died, so I thought it would be great if I could get a small group of about thirty or so Toti’ites from the 60s and 70s together occasionally for a get-together, never thinking this group would grow so big and so quickly.”

A plan was soon hatched to host a reunion. “This reunion is for all the people who lived in the area in the 60s and 70s and went to school in Toti, Warner Beach, Umbogintwini and so on,” said Neville Thompson, an ex-Warnadoone lifesaver and Toti rugby and cricket player, who will be the master of ceremonies on the day.

“I know that some of you have not seen your friends for a long time and although we now look different, it will be a fun day and I am sure there will also be some tears shed when old friends meet again. Can you remember all the people from your area? Imagine seeing old friends you haven’t seen in 20 or 30 years.

We have arranged to have music from musicians and bands from those ‘good old days’ from 2pm until late that night.

There is no cover charge and all you have to do is buy your own food and drinks from Lords.”

There is a request to bring any old photos of friends or the area to wow fellow guests on the day.

“Anyone who cannot make it, but would like to send a special message that will be read out at the reunion, email it to me at laughinglemontree@ymail.com, inbox me on Facebook or send me an SMS on 084-760-1692,” said Grant.

“I, like most of us Toti’ites I’m sure, have been so impressed with what these young people called the Army Saints are doing to help clean up Toti River and the town. I think it would be a wonderful gesture if everyone attending the reunion can make a small donation to them of either old clothing, blankets, food parcels or a cash donation, no matter how big or small. I’m sure it will go a long way towards helping these amazing youngsters achieve their goals for our old home town.”

Already 330 people have book their place at the reunion, so don’t wait, RSVP to either Grant or Neville on 071-350-3648 or email Tommo.neville@gmail.com.
