Thieves run out of Toti by teamwork

The CCPO, SAPS and community worked together to apprehend the burglar.

A thief got more than he bargained for when members of the community joined in the chase to cuff him on Friday morning, 11 July.

According to the Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO) operations manager, Leon Joone, the robber tried to break into an Anne Scheepers house at about 7am, but the owner alerted them.

“The CCPO, Blue Security and Toti SAPS cordoned off the area. With the co-operation of the community, it was a job well done and the robber was soon behind bars,” said Leon.

“Well done to the CCPO, SAPS and individuals from the community who all worked together to apprehend the burglar,” said Dana Le Roux on the Sun’s Facebook page. “It was wonderful to see people from all races rallying together to catch the culprit, who tried to hide by jumping from one property to another.

It was like a scene from a movie – the CCPO and a tiny SAPS woman running after him, cars and bakkies chasing the suspect, and a passerby jumping from his car in hot pursuit to eventually tackle him in an open park. This man jumped out of his car and left it in the middle of Seadoone Road to assist.

One by one, we will rid our town of all the trash.”

On Tuesday, 15 July the CCPO, with assistance from Metro Police, Toti SAPS and Blue Security chased a suspected house robber, who had stolen plastic chairs from an Athlone Park property.

“Unfortunately he got away after running into an informal settlement in Isipingo, but the chairs were recovered,” said Leon.
