CSA visits Orlando Children’s home
CSA went to Orlando Chilldren's Home on World Aids Day.
Cricket South Africa (CSA) visited the Orlando Children’s home in Soweto on Monday, November 2 as part of their support for World Aids Day which was celebrated across the globe on December 1. The home is a safe haven for nearly 60 abandoned and abused children and was established in 1940.
The visit is part of CSA’s commitment to uplifting communities, along with other development programmes the organisation runs. In addition, CSA donated R10 000 to the home, which relies on donations and government grants for running costs.
CSA CEO, Haroon Lorgat said, “Aids is a frightening reality that has inflicted the human race and it knows no boundaries. It is particularly prevalent in our own country and indeed throughout the African continent and we must all do everything possible to assist communities, wherever and whenever we can.”
Orlando Children’s home project director, Marriam Mazibuko says the visit will go a long way towards uplifting the community. ” If the children are happy, then the community can only benefit from it. This visit has made the children extremely excited, and has shown them that there is a lot of love and care in our country. This visit will help bring unity in our community, we are really humbled by it.”
The children were treated to lunch and a KFC Mini-Cricket coaching clinic was hosted by some of the Highveld Strikers players.
Batsman, Grant Mokoena said, ” I grew up in this area so it’s special that I can bring something back to my community. These children have their whole lives ahead of them, so I’m sure this visit will motivate them to strive for their dreams and goals.”
