Kevin Olivier, the competition secretary, said that the annual tournament was started at Berea Bowling Club. Traditionally, it involved four clubs, with the hosting duties rotating amongst them each year.
“This particular year represented the first time where the Bluff Bowling Club and Wentworth Bowling Club were invited to participate, joining the Queens Bowling Club and Berea Bowling Club,” said Olivier.
He added that each club team was required to present competitors across multiple categories, namely a singles player, a pairs team, a trips team and a fours team. The different categories served as a reflection of the club’s overall performance.
President’s praise
JP Wessels, the president of Bluff Bowling Club, commended his team not just for winning the title, but also for the consistent determination and teamwork they exhibited during the tournament.
“What an incredible achievement for Bluff Bowling Club. To win the Lou Stewart Competition is something every single member, supporter, player and committee member can be proud of,” he said.
Wessels also expressed gratitude to every player who had represented the club, noting that they had represented The Bluff badge with evident pride, passion and grit throughout the tournament.
“The way everyone supported one another, fought for every point and carried themselves both on and off the green made us all proud,” said Wessels.
He also thanked the other participating clubs for their hospitality and for pushing the club to work hard for their victory.
“A massive thank you must also go to Wentworth, Queens and Berea Bowling Clubs for being such amazing hosts throughout the tournament. Your hospitality, sportsmanship and effort in making the competition such a success does not go unnoticed,” he said.
Wessels described the victory as a significant moment of pride for the entire club and hopes that it would serve as motivation for future achievements.
