Abet pupils locked out of class

FIFTY pupils of the Bluff Adult Basic Education Training centre which hosts its lessons at Fynnlands Senior Primary School have been locked out of the facility since the beginning of the third term on Monday, 15 July.

In the nine years the school has been in operation, this is is the first time that pupils have been locked out. Sector manager, Gugu Ndlovu who has been with the facility since 2006 said: “There is no studying taking place, we are locked out. We are supposed to be in preparation for exams.

Letter have been sent to the department regarding the matter but they were not taking us seriously.”

She says they have been experiencing hardship since the former principal of the school left. She also said they were told they are wasting water and electricity – accusations which she rejects as being untrue as they are only there for a few hours a week.

The principal of the school, Marian de Wet opted to not comment on the matter and stated they are in discussion with the department of education. Comment from the

education department was not forthcoming at the time of going to press..
