Suspect arrested after municipal streetlight theft alert

The suspect was taken to Brighton Beach police station and detained for further investigation. He is expected to appear in court soon.

A MAN was arrested after being found in possession of suspected municipal infrastructure in Moss Road in Brighton Beach on September 6.

The arrest followed information by Fitama Protection Services about a suspect involved in the theft of a municipal streetlight and other infrastructure in the area.

Operations manager for Fitama Protection Services, Richard Hawksworth, said their team together with Titan Protection Services, RTL8 and the members of the Bluff Community Police Forum, mobilised and launched a search for the suspect.

“The suspect was located shortly afterwards and apprehended while in possession of the suspected stolen municipal items. Fitama protection Services then contacted the municipality which dispatched an inspector to the scene to assess the matter and open a case on behalf of the municipality,” he said.

The suspect was taken to Brighton Beach police station where he was detained for further investigation. He is expected to appear at the Durban Magistrate’s Court today.
