Sexual assault road show in Bluff schools

BRIGHTON Beach SAP communications officer, Captain Louise Le Roux is on the road, educating pupils from grade R to 7 on the dangers of sexual assault.

Through the use of her rag dolls (Jack and Jill) she will address the pupils in a safe, understandable way. “Sexual crimes against children are not only committed by strangers, but often by people known to the victim. Because the perpetrator is known, the child might not think it is a sexual assault.”

The road show is expected to be attended by over 3,500 pupils at schools within the Brighton Beach policing area over four weeks.

“Parents are urged to pay attention when their child indicates that someone has touched them in a bad or hurtful way, even if it is a family member, friend or acquaintance. Don’t brush off your child’s cry for help. All police stations have victim friendly facilities with qualified counsellors who can interview or council children and in turn contact the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for intervention when necessary.”
