Consulate staff get stuck in at Crow

Consulate staff do good ahead of World Wild Life Day.

About 23 staff members from the US Consulate’s Durban office, dedicated their time to assist the Centre for Rehabilitation of Wildlife (Crow) with tasks associated with its baboon enclosure revamp on Friday, 7 March.

Tasks included painting the perimeter walls of the enclosure, sanitising the ground with coarse salt as well as moving some of the exposed rocks out of the enclosure.

“We enjoyed making snacks, painting, removing rocks and debris and preparing the baboon enclosure for a new troop. While taking positive action, we reflected on what we can do to conserve the countless species that share the planet with us. It was also an occasion to stress the urgent need to combat wildlife trafficking which threatens our security, the environment, human health and sustainable economic development,” said the US Consulate’s public affairs officer, Najlaa Abdus-Samad.

Crow thanks the Consulate staff for their hard work and enthusiasm as well as Builders Express for sponsoring 20 litres of paint, rollers and paintbrushes. About R10,000 of R130,000 has been raised so far for the baboon enclosure revamp. If you would like to assist Crow with the project, contact them on 031-462-1127 or visit their website at www.crowkzn.co.za for more information.
